PORTUGUESE STONE

This series emerges as a gesture of displacement and re-presentation of the historical material surrounding the discovery of Brazil. Each of the 44 photographed stones was momentarily removed from the city's ground: fragments of the traditional Portuguese stone pavement, a symbol of European-style urbanization and the colonial permanence in the layout of Brazilian cities.
